Arabic-First Design: Beyond Right-to-Left
Designing for Arabic users means more than mirroring the layout. Typography, density, and cultural patterns all change how an interface should be built.

Most products treat RTL as an afterthought: flip the layout, justify the text, ship it. The result is an interface that works mechanically but feels foreign to the people who use it every day.
Typography is the first tell
Arabic script has different metrics than Latin. Ascenders are taller, descenders deeper, and connected letterforms change how words breathe. A type scale tuned for Latin can make Arabic text feel cramped or sparse in the same layout.
- Give Arabic headlines a taller line-height and looser tracking
- Check the baseline alignment between Arabic and Latin text in mixed interfaces
- Test numerals, since Arabic-Indic digits change meaning across dialects
Density and hierarchy change direction
The reading order flips, and so does the visual weight of a page. Elements that anchor a Latin interface on the left should anchor the Arabic version on the right, not just mirror, but rebalance.
Mirroring is a technical task. Designing is a cultural one.
Design the system, not the translation
We build design tokens that accommodate both scripts from the start: spacing scales that survive longer words, icon treatments that read correctly in either direction, and interaction patterns that don't assume a left-to-right flow.
Arabic-first is not a constraint. It's a product decision that, done properly, makes the interface feel native in every market you serve.
